How do I get referred to Blacktown Hospital antenatal clinic?
You need a GP referral before you can book in.
- See your GP. Your GP sends a referral, addressed to a specialist doctor at the Women's Health Clinic, through the WSLHD eReferral system.
- Choose shared care if you like. If you want GP shared care, your GP must be accredited and write "GPSC" on the referral.
- Ask about caseload care early. To register interest in the Midwifery Caseload Practice, email WSLHD-midwiferygrouppractice-blacktown@health.nsw.gov.au.
- Wait for a text message. You get a text when your referral arrives and when your appointment is booked. If you need care at another WSLHD hospital, the message tells you where. To change an appointment, call (02) 8670 8356 or (02) 8670 8352.
- Book your classes. Childbirth and parenting classes are free if you have Medicare and are giving birth at Blacktown. You book them online.

- Midwives Clinic. The best place for your care if you have a healthy pregnancy.
- Midwifery Antenatal and Postnatal Service (MAPS). You get to know your midwife, with appointments at home or in the hospital.
- Midwifery Caseload Practice (MCP). The same midwife cares for you. It suits women in good health who plan a natural birth and are ready to go home 4 to 6 hours after the birth if both of you are well.
- COSMiC and SMILE. Care from midwifery students, supervised by midwives, through pregnancy, birth and after.
- Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Health Service and Dragonfly. Culturally safe pregnancy and after-birth care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
- Doctor-led clinics. For women with medical conditions in pregnancy who need specialist care.
- GP shared care. An accredited GP shares your care with the hospital.
- Private obstetrician. You build a relationship with one doctor, and most private obstetricians are available 24 hours a day. If you plan to give birth at Blacktown, you still need a booking-in appointment at the hospital.
