Our Story
We Know What It Feels Like to Worry About Your Baby’s Head Shape
We’ve been there. When we noticed our daughter’s head shape wasn’t quite right, we went through the same confusion and worry many parents feel. We documented our journey. From the advice we were given, to what didn’t work, and finally discovering a safe, effective solution.
Maybe you’ll see a bit of your own story in ours.
How did we not see it earlier?
How We Discovered Ellie’s Plagiocephaly
It all started during a nappy change when Ellie was just 2 months old, a family member noticed she was always turning her head to her right and struggling to look left.
Her chin was tilted, her neck seemed tight and suddenly, we saw: a flat spot on the side of her head (see first photo above).
Our hearts sank. Was this our fault? How did we not notice this earlier?
The Advice That Didn’t Work
Some of the Options We Tried
Like most new parents, we went straight to our paediatrician. He explained it was flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly) and recommended repositioning, more tummy time and even a wedge pillow. If that didn’t work, a helmet was our only option.
We followed every instruction: repositioning, rolled-up towels and endless tummy time, but Ellie always flipped back to her favourite side. Later, we learned that using any type of pillow was unsafe for a baby! That was a shock!
After more research, we discovered Ellie actually had torticollis (a tight neck muscle that made turning difficult). We began weekly osteopath visits and stretches at home. Her neck improved, but her head shape didn’t.
The final straw came when we explored helmet treatment. The deposit alone to secure an appointment was $200 and the full cost nearly $3,500 including follow up appointments.
We were already exhausted and financially stretched. It felt like we were running out of options.
Why We Chose The Perfect Noggin
One night, while scrolling through a parenting Facebook group, we came across something called The Perfect Noggin, a contoured head-shaping mattress designed by Dr. Gary Rogers, a world-leading craniofacial surgeon.
Parents were sharing before-and-after photos and talking about real, natural results. It sounded almost too good to be true, but at $3,000 less than the next viable alternative we decided it was worth trying.
Ellie's Head Transformation
14 Weeks Later
Six weeks after starting, we noticed subtle improvements. Week by week, Ellie’s head became rounder until at 14 weeks her head shape had completely transformed.
No helmet. No stress.
The Perfect Noggin gave us something we didn’t expect: peace of mind. That experience led us to partner with Dr. Gary and make The Perfect Noggin available to families across Australia and New Zealand.
We never want another parent to feel the panic and helplessness we did. There’s a small window for support, and now there’s a safe, proven way to act with confidence.
