How do I book in at Norwest Private Hospital to have my baby?

Norwest Private is a private hospital, so an obstetrician leads your care. Start early, because you book the hospital after your first visit with them.

  1. See your GP. Ask your GP for a referral to an obstetrician who works at Norwest Private. The hospital's website has a page listing its obstetricians.
  2. Have your first obstetrician visit. After this appointment, go to the hospital's eAdmission portal.
  3. Complete your eAdmission. It has two parts: the admission forms and your health history. If you have had a baby at Norwest Private before, you can copy your earlier details.
  4. Wait for the bookings call. The Maternity Booking staff process your booking, check your health fund details and call you to set up a midwife appointment.
  5. Meet a midwife. At this pre-admission visit you go over your pregnancy and ask questions about the birth. You can choose to do it by phone instead. You also get a maternity information pack.

Healthscope announced in September 2026 that Norwest Private is due to move to new owners led by Calvary Health Care, and said hospital operations will continue. Ask the hospital if you have questions about your booking.

What pregnancy care and education does Norwest Private Hospital offer?

  • Private obstetrician care. You choose from the hospital's network of obstetricians, who care for you in pregnancy and at the birth.
  • Maternity tours. Free tours run by midwives are held regularly. You see the birth suites and maternity suites and can ask questions. To book, email your name and mobile number to norwestmaternity@healthscope.com.au.
  • Parent education after the birth. On the postnatal unit, Tuesday to Friday, there are physiotherapy classes, breastfeeding support from a lactation consultant, and sessions on settling, wrapping and bathing before you take your baby home.
  • Paediatrician care for your baby. After the birth, your baby is cared for by a paediatrician. There are usually at least two visits: one in hospital and a follow-up 6 to 8 weeks after you go home.

To compare private and public care, see NSW Health's Pregnancy care options in NSW.

What is the Norwest Private birthing unit like?

Each birth suite has an ensuite bathroom, an adjustable birthing bed and the K2 fetal monitoring system. For active birth there are beanbags, mirrors and a birth stool. If you have a caesarean, the hospital offers family friendly caesareans, where your baby, your partner and a midwife stay with you in the recovery ward.

Call the maternity unit if you have strong signs of labour, such as regular contractions less than ten minutes apart. A midwife will tell you whether to stay home or come in.

Does Norwest Private Hospital have a special care nursery?

Yes. The Level 2 Special Care Nursery cares for premature and sick babies from 33 weeks of pregnancy. If your baby needs a higher level of care, they are transferred straight away to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
