1. See your GP or a private midwife. Contact your GP or a private midwife, and they will refer you to Toowoomba Hospital.
2. Choose the type of care you want. Talk about the options below. If you would like midwifery group practice care, ask your GP to mention it on your referral, as spaces are limited.

Where is the Toowoomba Hospital antenatal clinic?

The Antenatal Clinic is on the 2nd Floor of Toowoomba Hospital, and the Lactation Clinic is just outside it. The campus map shows the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic on Level 2 of the Medical Block. The Extended Community Midwifery Service (ECMS) also runs antenatal clinics on Ruthven Street. If you live more than 15 km from the hospital, telehealth antenatal clinics are available.

Does Toowoomba Hospital have a birth centre?

Yes. The Birth Centre is part of the main birth suite and is for women with a normal pregnancy. The campus map shows the Birthing Centre and Birth Suites on Level 3 of the Medical Block. You can talk with your midwife about using water for labour and birth.

Does Toowoomba Hospital have a neonatal unit?

Yes. The campus map shows a Neonatal Unit on Level 3 of the Medical Block, on the same level as the birth suite. If your baby may need extra care after the birth, ask your midwife or doctor what the unit can provide.

How long will I stay in hospital after the birth?

If you and your baby are well, you can go home 4 to 6 hours after the birth. After a normal birth, most women stay around 24 hours. After a caesarean, the usual stay is 32 to 48 hours.
