• In labour: phone ahead. The main maternity entry is through the multi-storey car park and along the walkway to the lifts in the Main Foyer. Take the lift to the Maternity Ward on Level 2 and turn left, and a midwife or staff member will take you to the Birthing Suites. If you are in strong labour, your partner can park in a Maternity Emergency Drop Off space, reached through the Main Entrance at Gate 3 on Newdegate Street. These spaces are short term, so the car must move to the multi-storey car park once you are settled.

How do I book in at Greenslopes Private Hospital to have my baby?

To give birth at Greenslopes, you need an obstetrician who works there. You can start the hospital booking before your obstetrician is confirmed.

1. See your GP. Your GP confirms the pregnancy.
2. Choose an obstetrician. Make an appointment with one of the obstetricians listed on the Greenslopes website. Contact them as soon as you can to secure your booking.
3. Complete the online booking form. If your obstetrician is not confirmed yet, write "to be confirmed" in the obstetrician field and update it later through the patient portal.
4. Wait for a call. A member of the maternity team calls you after your form is received.
5. Book a class. You can book as soon as you receive your hospital appointment letter. Numbers are limited, and the hospital suggests attending after 30 weeks.

• Private obstetrician care. You have continuity of care with one of the hospital's obstetricians, plus education clinics and classes.

What are the Greenslopes birth suites like?

The birth suites are on Level 1. You reach them from the maternity ward on Level 2 by a maternity lift or the stairs. Each suite has hotel style furniture, a private ensuite, a television and free wifi. They are on the same level as the operating theatres, with direct access if you need surgery. There is also a lounge and self-service catering area on Level 1 for you and your support people. If you are booked for a planned caesarean, go to Main Reception on the Lobby Level for admission.

Does Greenslopes Private Hospital have a special care nursery?

Yes. The Special Care Nursery cares for babies born from 32 weeks. Midwives and neonatal nurses staff it 24 hours a day, and paediatricians and neonatologists are on call around the clock. Greenslopes can deliver babies from 32 weeks of pregnancy. If you go into labour before 32 weeks, you will be transferred to the Mater Mothers' Hospital, where your baby can be cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Parents can visit the nursery day and night.

What is the Greenslopes maternity ward like, and how long will I stay?

The maternity ward has 26 private rooms on Level 2 of the John French Wing. Each has a private ensuite, and half have double beds. A standard stay is three to four nights after a vaginal birth, or four to five nights after a caesarean. Partners can stay overnight at no fee, on a double bed or a recliner in single rooms.

What are the Greenslopes maternity visiting hours?

Partners can visit at any time. For family and friends, maternity visiting hours are 10.30am to 1pm and 3pm to 8pm every day. From 1pm to 3pm is a rest period, and the hospital asks visitors to stay away during this time. Partners of maternity patients get free parking, and the multi-storey car park is closest to the maternity unit.
