What is the Queanbeyan Hospital maternity ward like?
Queanbeyan Maternity Services offers booking-in visits, ongoing midwifery care, birth and care after the birth, and the Maternity Unit is on Level 1. The district's general information for all its maternity services says inductions happen in the Maternity Unit birth suite, and that water immersion in labour is offered at certain times to women who meet its criteria, such as being healthy with no pregnancy complications, having one head-down baby and being at least 37 weeks pregnant. Ask your midwife whether water immersion will be available for you at Queanbeyan. Across the district, your partner is welcome during labour and your stay, but should plan their own meals. If you need a caesarean, only one person can be with you in theatre. The district supports doulas for emotional and physical support, but a doula cannot give clinical care or advice.

What if my baby or I need more specialised care?
Queanbeyan has a level 2 nursery. NSW Health says level 2 nurseries support families to look after well babies born after 37 weeks, and give simple short-term care, including for babies returning closer to home. If you or your baby need more specialised care, you may be transferred to a higher-level hospital, and staff will talk with you about your options. NSW Health's factsheet for level 3 hospitals says services such as social work and Aboriginal liaison officers can help your family organise transport, accommodation and financial help.
How long will I stay after giving birth at Queanbeyan Hospital?
Across its maternity services, the district says the stay after a normal vaginal birth is usually 6 to 48 hours, and around 72 hours after a caesarean. It may be longer if there are complications or your baby needs extra care. The hospital's discharge time is 10am.
What are the Queanbeyan Hospital maternity visiting hours?
Queanbeyan Hospital does not have set visiting hours, but asks visitors to remember that patients need rest. In a single room, up to four visitors at a time is recommended. Keep numbers low in shared rooms, and speak with the Nurse Unit Manager if more visitors need to come. Do not visit if you are unwell.
