Can I get help with travel and accommodation for the birth?

The Patient Assisted Travel Scheme (PATS) helps country WA residents who must travel more than 100 kilometres one way to their closest specialist service. Its July 2026 handbook says that if you need to travel to your nearest birthing centre to have your baby, you are eligible for PATS subsidies. This can include accommodation before the birth, usually from about 37 weeks, based on a risk assessment by your obstetrician. After an uncomplicated birth, help is generally available for up to five days. More nights may be approved if you cannot fly after the birth. Read more on the WACHS PATS page.
